Jesus designs in intricate detail everything. Solvable, but only with painstaking effort, yet easy with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I have spent a lifetime, sometimes delightful and sometimes painstaking and tiring, studying and teaching his every designed intricate detail from creation to the new beginning to come. Jesus’ intricate detail in the new beginning of his congregation, the church, is seen in the extraordinary calling of disciples during an ordinary day.
Matthew 4:18-22 and Mark 1:16-20 record that Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. This was no casual stroll. Jesus had intent. His focus was on four soon-to-be disciples casting their last net of the night into the sea. Jesus stopped and watched the men as they finished a hard day’s night, waiting for them to come ashore, an intentional act he would repeat in three years.
Jesus watched the four fisherman make their way to shore. Then one, two, three, and so many more showed up, wanting to be with Jesus. Jesus filled the thirsty ears and hearts with God’s nectar, truth. Jesus cleansed souls to preserve them; the fisherman landed and cleansed the nets to preserve them. The sun rising above the horizon would witness the Son of God turn a fisherman’s ordinary day into the beginning of an extraordinary life. Jesus designed intent.
Not by accident but full intent, Jesus requested Simon’s boat as a stage, forcing Peter to stop his work and listen to him. Peter, knowing and respecting Jesus, consented. When Jesus finished teaching God’s truth, he intently and practically individually taught Peter. Jesus has intently designs the call of all his disciples. No accidents happen in the lives of his called disciples.
