Jesus taught the people the word of God. The people crowded around him to hear his every word, like sheep and cattle eating hay in the winter. Later, Jesus saw the people as sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:36; Mark 6:34)
The people were thirsty for the word of God, like deer panting for water. They had no one who taught as Jesus did. They had no one to turn to for spiritual nourishment.
The people had numerous problems. Jesus saw what was really important. So he taught the truth to fill their spiritual needs. They needed the word of God to help them turn to God.
The Old Testament prophets used the sea as a metaphor for the nations. (Isaiah 57:20; Daniel 7:2-3; Habakkuk 1:4) Jesus is a fisherman casting the word of God into the sea of people to catch some fish.
Teaching the word of God is very important in the kingdom of God because people’s souls desperately need it as much as the body needs food and water.
Teaching the word of God begins with an anointing of the Holy Spirit. Studying and teaching the word of God with the anointing of the Holy Spirit is a blessed mission.
