Paul spoke of weapons Christians fight with in verses 3 and 4. They are not weapons of this world. The weapons of choice for Christians are like Jesus’, which include words based in grace and truth.
Such truth demolishes arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. The knowledge of God is truth. God’s truth humbles proud men. God’s truth includes not only the condition and state of mankind, but also all the facts of the created universe. The gospel is embedded with God’s truth.
Sharing the gospel enables us to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. These thoughts are not only our own, but Paul is specifically writing about the thoughts of those who oppose truth. Through obeying Jesus’ great commission, we engage in Christian combat. The Holy Spirit enables us in the good fight by reminding us of Jesus’ words. So, am I a fighting saint or an ain’t?
