The congregation in the city of Colossae had people that demanded that everyone observe Sabbath and abstain from eating certain foods (15]. They also had rules in regards to touching, handling, and restraining sensual indulgence. (21, 23). They were not only in error but had also lost connection with Jesus (19).
Christianity is not about following rules about these things (20). Rules, whether written or unwritten are not from God. Rules in Christianity are from humans (22). Christians are free from such rules for we follow Christ. We live by the Spirit.
I have experienced strong words from such people. They were judgemental (16) and proud (18). I have to watch myself. I can easily become like them.
